Rapid Engineered Repair Restores Critical VS1 Pump

May 6, 2025

Challenge: Emergency Engineered Repair for Critical VS1 Pump in the Oil & Gas Industry

A client in the Oil & Gas industry experienced a failure on one of their in-service vertical pumps – an approximately 30” impeller, 50’ long VS1 model – while their spare pump was already at Westpower’s Edmonton repair center for overhaul. The client faced a potential plant shutdown if another failure occurred.

Solution & Outcome: Two Donor Pumps, One Operational Unit in Two Weeks

Westpower’s Engineered Repairs team acted immediately, bringing the failed in-service pump into the Edmonton repair center. Over a two-week period – including extended hours and weekend work – Westpower combined components from both the spare pump and the failed unit to complete one overhauled pump. This included manufacturing and fitting large wear rings on the impellers and full assembly of the final unit.

The completed pump was returned to the client within two weeks of receiving the failed unit, restoring critical operations and avoiding a potential outage.

Client needs are our priority, and we find solutions that drive that success.
